The exhibition
Stories of the History of the Castle of Castellar is the title of the exhibition which is presented on the castle’s ground floor and is made up of a compilation of the most significant moments in the building’s history, from its origins up to the present day. It is based on various historical documents immortalising real stories that occurred in the castle’s past: its historical origins; feudalism; life in the castle and the village in the 14th and 15th centuries; the emergence in feudal times of masias or country houses, which would become the bedrock of Catalan society; the Peninsular War, which embroiled the castle on two occasions; and the more recent past, explained first-hand by its latest occupants and people from the village.
The exhibition also includes the audiovisual entitled May God Forgive Me... a piece of historical fiction in which Seguí, Lord of Castellar in 1022, explains how he so beseeched divine forgiveness in his will that God forgave him and granted him eternal life. He was thus condemned to witness everything that has happened in the castle from the time of his death until the present day. To see it all, but to be powerless to intervene...
